Neuropathy

Neuropathy is when nerve damage leads to pain, weakness, sensory impairments such as numbness or tingling in one or more parts of the body.

The most common conditions include Charcot Marie Tooth Disease and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), and we see people with neuropathy related to diabetes mellitus or chemotherapy treatment. These conditions vary considerably and there are many other types and sub-types

Careful, individualised assessment by a Neurological Physiotherapist can help you assist with a rehabilitation plan, which may also involve close work with other health professionals such as orthotists, podiatrists and your neurologist.

We understand the many issues faced by people with neuropathy and are happy to help with movement based training for mobility and/or hand function, progressive strengthening and cardiovascular fitness programs that are safe and effective. Pain management or advice is also a large part of Neurological Physiotherapy.
