Concussion Baseline Screening

At Advanced Neuro Rehab, we work closely with Your Brain Health to support individuals, sporting organisations and community groups with a proactive approach to concussion management.

Your Brain Health provides multimodal baseline concussion screening, which establishes an individual reference point for areas of brain function that can be affected by concussion. Baseline screening may include assessment of vestibular-ocular motor function, balance, reaction time, cognition and brain health history.

A baseline assessment can provide useful information for comparison if a person subsequently sustains a concussion or head injury. It can also help identify areas that may require further clinical assessment or support.

What happens if you sustain a concussion after a baseline screening?

If you have completed a baseline screening with Your Brain Health and subsequently sustain a concussion, you can be referred to Advanced Neuro Rehab for a comprehensive concussion assessment and individualised rehabilitation program. Let the team at ANR know you have had a baseline screening so we can review your data through the ScreenIt database. This then helps us as we undertake a multimodal assessment in a clinic that follows the SCOAT6 guidelines.

Our neurological physiotherapists can assess the range of systems commonly affected by concussion, including:

• Vestibular and balance function
• Eye movement and visual function
• Cervical spine and neck function
• Headache and migraine-related symptoms
• Autonomic function and exercise tolerance
• Cognitive and functional symptoms
• Dizziness and motion sensitivity
• Fatigue and sleep-related symptoms
• Return to work, study, exercise and sport

Where a baseline assessment is available, this information can provide an additional reference point alongside a comprehensive clinical assessment. However, you do not need to have completed a baseline screening to receive concussion assessment or rehabilitation at Advanced Neuro Rehab.

A connected approach to concussion care

We believe effective concussion management involves early assessment, appropriate education, targeted rehabilitation and collaboration between health professionals.

Through our relationship with Your Brain Health, we can support a pathway from proactive brain health and baseline screening through to assessment and rehabilitation following concussion.

If you or your child has sustained a concussion, head injury or suspected mild traumatic brain injury, our team can assess your symptoms and develop an individualised rehabilitation plan to support a safe and appropriate return to everyday activities, work, study, exercise or sport.
