Weekly Staff Professional Development Topic
Last week in our staff Professional Development Session, we spoke about Technology in Rehabilitation!
Technology in rehabilitation continues to advance, and keeping up to date with new developments is key to provide the best possible options for clients.
Some new developments that we discussed included devices that exist in the field of robotic therapy, including exoskeleton gait assistive devices. These devices may attach to an individual and provide mechanical assistance for activities like standing, lifting, walking and even running. Therapists may consider how these devices might play a role in enhancing rehabilitation and to enable more function in real world activities. Exoskeleton devices have been used in rehabilitation for goals around walking, golfing, running, and even skiing!
Upper limb therapy is advancing with options to consider mechanically assisted rehabilitation, and “gamifying” therapy to improve engagement and motivation for therapy. The upper limb can be a challenging area for rehabilitation, and therapists may consider new devices as an additional “tool in the toolbox” to enable additional movement and practice.
ANR continues to evaluate and review new technologies and engage with both clients and the companies themselves to provide feedback to ensure future products meet the rehabilitation needs of our clients.
We currently have the Arm Motus M2, an upper limb device on trial at our Christies Beach office. Please chat with your therapist to see if it is a suitable adjunct for your rehabilitation.
