PAIN PSYCHOLOGY

Weekly Staff Professional Development Topic

Last week in our Staff Professional Development session we had Suzanne, a Registered Psychologist join us to discuss the role of psychology when it comes to pain.

Pain can be extremely complex and may not always be caused by damage to tissue.

Pain is a perception and an experience. When we are exposed to pain for long periods of time or have secondary factors like trauma, stress or maladaptation, it can heighten these perceptions of pain.

That is why, on top of neurological physiotherapy we may recommend further psychological services to help your brain change the way it is perceiving your pain alongside our treatments. This often can lead to optimising outcomes and better manage not only your pain presentation but overall symptoms to improve your quality of life.
